  • Iron Monkey – 9-13 (Black LP+MP3)

    Sektion: Musik, Neue Releases

Image: 1611598 Cult UK doom/sludge outfit IRON MONKEY return with 9-13, their first new full-length in almost two decades. After disbanding in 1999 due to the death of their original singer J.P. Morrow, the group has reformed for phase two of their mission. Recorded in their hometown of Nottingham in Spring 2017 A.D. with producer Johnny A. Carter, 9-13 is 9 songs and 48 minutes of total nihilism. Now older, more cynical and more isolationist, IRON MONKEY are back to usurp the scene, then crush its skull. Without question, their most focused, aggressive and direct material to date, 9-13 is an all-out assault of violent hatred and nightmarish negativity. Recommended listening for fans of pain, suffering, and misanthropy.

  • Kamaal Williams – The Return

    Sektion: Musik, Neue Releases

  • Wrekmeister Harmonies – The Alone Rush (LP+MP3)

    Sektion: Musik, Neue Releases

Image: 1618012 Wrekmeister Harmonies’ new album, The Alone Rush, their frst as the core duo of JR Robinson and Esther Shaw, is a hauntingly intense and dark meditation on death and isolation, whose concise compositions carry an emotional heft without the orchestrated bombast of their previous four albums.
The Alone Rush retains Wrekmeister Harmonies’ expansive and ambitious aesthetic, blending waves of ethereal keyboards, haunting string melodies, and crescendos of dissonance, but now turns central focus towards Robinson’s deep, rich, and soothing vocals. The two guests involved in The Alone Rush are longtime friend and
Swans drummer Thor Harris, performing minimal drums and clarinet, as well as acclaimed New York producer/engineer Martin Bisi. Over the course of their fve albums on Thrill Jockey Wrekmeister Harmonies have veered from drone to modern classical, outrock and extreme metal, curating and orchestrating the talents of such varied
underground luminaries as Godspeed! You Black Emperor, David Yow of The Jesus Lizard, Chip King and Lee Buford of The Body, Marissa Nadler, Jef Whitehead of Leviathan, Alexander Hacke of Einstürzende Neubauten, Sanford Parker of Minsk, the freeimprov cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm, Chris Brokaw of Come, and jazz composer Ken Vandermark.

  • Aseethe – Hopes Of Failure (LP+MP3)

    Sektion: Musik, Neue Releases

Image: 1607842 Aseethe’s unrelenting slow-doom is often compared to drone music because
of its core repetitions. This distinctly non-metal approach combined with
harsh vocals and unusual samples gives Aseethe a unique voice among
metal’s boundary pushers. On Hopes of Failure, the Iowa band’s primary
in?uences of doom and drone share a similar ethos, but rarely do they
converge with as much restraint, and patience, drawing on inventive sound
sources and distorted, just enough, to add some sludge. Aseethe is the
direction that heavy music is moving in.
Aseethe guitarist/vocalist Brian Barr initially started Aseethe as a solo
project to explore a more doom-oriented sound. Barr was soon joined by
Eric Diercks on drums and samples, who brought to the project a love of
new music and ability to provide rhythmic complexity to Aseethe’s steady,
dark march. The current trio was formed when Brian’s brother Danny Barr
    joined on bass and vocals.
Aseethe’s self-released albums, with the exception of their 12” limited
edition of Barn Owl covers (only 100 copies made) that extracted a
Barn Owl riff into a side long piece, have been largely noise-in?uenced
soundscapes. Hopes of Failure strips away much of those elements into the
bare essentials focused on methodical, and crushing music by devoting
all attention to creating mammoth-sized riffs. The meditative component
of Aseethe’s sound remains driven by an inward focus, a stare down the
caverns of depression. Lyrically Brian and Danny contemplate the steady,
exponential decay of modern society. The juxtaposition of these re?ections
are best articulated in closing track “Into the Sun,” which also features the
    rare appearance of melodic vocals:
“Reach further for hopes of failure
    Your body is breaking down
Build further the bridge we need”
Since the band’s inception, Aseethe has been dedicated to pushing the
boundaries of what it means to be a heavy band. Their pummeling and
extended pieces are as enveloping as a drive through the Iowa cornfelds of
their home. Their drone in?uence and the dark lenses through which they
view the world are a con?uence of ingredients that are at once deliberate,
    devastating and exhilarating
