Epic Belgian 3 piece BRUTUS can today announce details of their hugely anticipated forthcoming 2nd album 'Nest', set for release on March 29th  through Hassle Records in Europe and through Sargent House in the ROTW. The record release is preceded by the first single/video 'War' which was shot on the last day of the recordings at Nest in Rain City Recorders, Vancouver Canada, is out now and you can watch the video - https://youtu.be/EBRYSlKDlws

To describe the last two years as a whirlwind for BRUTUS is something of an understatement. Having signed to Hassle Records, 2017 saw the release of their debut album, Burst , which set them on a path of award nominations and ‘album of the year’ accolades, as well as picking up huge fans from Lars Ulrich of Metallica to Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro . In the last 12 or so months, they have toured with Sargent House label mates Chelsea Wolfe and Russian Circles, BRUTUS
also hit the road as main support to Thrice through Europe. Taking time out from the live circuit, the trio headed to Vancouver to record their second alb um, once again returning to Jesse Gander ( Japandroids, White Lung, Baptists ) at his Rain City Recorders studio in September 2018. The resulting 11 tracks form BRUTUS ’s new album, 'Nest'. By their own admission, the formative sound of the band was shaped b y their physical limitations, drummer Stefanie Mannaerts adopted vocal duties initially out of necessity. Having fully embraced her role as both vocalist and drummer, the full range of Stefanie’s multiple talents is showcased on 'Nest'. The abrasive urgenc y of her emotive vocals is mirrored in the tribalistic drumming, just as tender whispers echo the gentle roll of percussion elsewhere. Co - conspirators Stijn Vanhoegaerden (guitar) and Peter Mulders (bass) complete the magic circle with pervasive riffs, dyn amic bass lines, and a fine balance between uneasy restraint and unrepentant aggression. BRUTUS throws a net over post - rock, hardcore, metal and pop, gathering defining facets of each into their unique sound. A diverse mix of influences penetrated the BR UTUS bubble, the biggest of which was the people around them on the journey to the creation of 'Nest'. Be it the bands they toured with, their family at home, or indeed their own bandmates

human interaction is the nucleus of the album. However, additiona l sources of creative inspiration peppered their outlook, from Radiohead to Burial , from ‘Twin Peaks’ to Townes Van Zandt. -highlighted in magnificent technicolour no less. Burrowed in amongst those triumphs are moments of reflection, the choices they have made in pursuit of their goals and the impact those choices have had on both themselves and those they have left behind in their nest. The arc of the album charts the friction between the band’s forward motion and their desire to maintain a connection to those back at home. It’s a timeline of invincibility and doubt, of taking risks and letting go, a chronology of what the y are and what they’ve done. Bound by a thread that was intangible to others, their shared experiences, both good and bad, 'Nest' is the sound of a band who know how to use the strength of their bond to full effect, to use every part of themselves as an additional tool for conveying their message: take care of those in your own nest. BRUTUS find their places of comfort to be very different to the ones previously held dear, the nest they started out with is not quite the same one as they stand in today.

  • Francis Coppieters – Piano Vibrations

    Sektion: Musik, Neue Releases

    ---------------------------

Piano Viberations’ “small group jazz featuring piano and vibes with rhythm” makes for a gorgeous Francis Coppieters showcase, surely one of Belgium’s best-kept musical secrets. Released in 1975, and arguably the most low-key of the KPM and Themes records we’re re-issuing, this is easily our current favourite.

“The Open Highway” is the appropriately-named opener, and immediately demonstrates Coppieters’ dexterous interplay between piano and vibes in assured, joyous fashion. The shuffling bossa of “Sales Notes” is a jaw-dropper, well-mined by samplers with impeccable taste. The mellow head-nod drum-break that is “Funky Chimes” brilliantly demonstrates Coppieters’ quiet majestic side with its slow-motion funk rhythm with beautifully reflective notes throughout.

The upbeat and joyful “Cross Talk” closes out side A. Vibes and piano are definitely at the heart of the arrangement here. The quick cut movement of “Piano In Transit” is another gem, driven principally by piano but those vibes along for more than just the ride. On a more gentle, elegiac note, “To Shearing With Love” is a warm, slow, romantic piece in the style of George Shearing. It’s plaintive and sublime.

Piano Viberations is one of those rare library records the original description of which makes as much sense now as it did when it was first released. Piano and vibes with rhythm indeed.

As with all ten re-issues, the audio for Piano Viberations comes from the original analogue tapes and has been remastered for vinyl by Be With regular Simon Francis. We’ve taken the same care with the sleeves, handing the reproduction duties over to Richard Robinson, the current custodian of KPM’s brand identity.

Be With has worked with the hallowed KPM to re-issue ten of our favourites from across the KPM 1000 Series and the Themes International Music catalogue, currently under KPM stewardship.

Whether it’s killer soul-funk, sweet jazz-samba, skuzzed-up guitars or accidental Balearic beauty, these records include some of the most innovative work from some of the most talented composers and musicians of the 20th century.

These records were never readily available, being originally released as a ready-made, affordable alternative to commissioning music for television and radio. Consequentially the originals have been unobtainable for decades by all but the most dedicated collectors.

The audio for all ten re-issues comes from the original analogue tapes and has been remastered for vinyl by Be With regular Simon Francis. We’ve taken the same care with the sleeves, handing the reproduction duties over to Richard Robinson, the current custodian of KPM’s brand identity. And don’t worry! Those KPM stickers aren’t stuck directly on the sleeves!

But we didn’t just get a bit giddy and find ourselves re-issuing classic work from Alan Parker, Alan Hawkshaw, Brian Bennett, Nick Ingman, James Clarke, Francis Coppieters, Keith Mansfield, David Snell and John Fiddy. In the middle of the project KPM also asked Be With to be responsible for the vinyl version of Full Circle, an entire LP of new material from Alan Hawkshaw and Brian Bennett. Who were we to refuse.

So that makes eleven records in total, all released on the 16th of November, and available for pre-order ordering now... Erhältlich ab 23.11.2018 Getaggt mit:

  • SUMAC – Love In Shadow (2LP+MP3)

    Sektion: Musik, Neue Releases

Image: 1620554 SUMAC - guitarist and vocalist Aaron Turner (Old Man Gloom, Mamiffer,
ISIS), drummer Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists, Erosion), and bassist Brian Cook
(Russian Circles, Botch) - delivers their third full length album, Love in
Shadow, a brutalizing dive into love and all its raw emotions. The album
was recorded live in a single room at Robert Lang Studios (Nirvana, Foo
Fighters) in Washington by Kurt Ballou (Converge), who later mixed the
album at his own studio GodCity.
The album ?ows with the continued momentum from their acclaimed
collaborative release with with legendary Japanese artist Keiji Haino
(Fushitsusha, Painkiller) earlier this year American Dollar Bill - Keep
Facing Sideways, You’re Too Hideous To Look At Face On, incorporating
more freeform abstraction into their raw, bombastic, and jagged sound. The
intense exploration of tension and chaos is mirrored in Turner’s striking
visual art for the album, where strands of frayed ink and hints of color
coalesce into a swamp-like form both elaborately disorienting and minutely
    structured in its packaging.
Each member of SUMAC has remained prolifc within their own right, with
Turner continuing to release albums with a myriad of projects and through
his own imprint SIGE, Yacyshyn recently releasing new music with Baptists
as well as scoring a horror flm soundtrack, and Cook consistently touring
the world, sharing the stage with bands like Mastodon, Chelsea Wolfe, and
    many more.
Love can be ugly. But at its core, it’s alive, unpredictable, and volatile. On
Love In Shadow, SUMAC captures that passion in the most primal and
    unfettered manner possible.

    TRACK LISTING:
