  • Dreadzone – Eye On The Horizon (Ltd. Colored / 180g LP)

    Sektion: Musik, Neue Releases

Image: 1618075 2010 album first time on limited edition vinyl!

From the ashes of Big Audio Dynamite and Screaming Target, founder member Greg Dread, original bassmaster Leo Williams, the unmistakable MC Spee, legendary reggae vocalist Earl 16 alongside Chris Compton on guitar and Chris Oldfield on technology make up the current team of dreadz.
The story started with Alan McGee‘s Creation and the first groundbreaking album 360, continuing with their seminal 1995 album ‘Second Light‘ picking up support from John Peel who cited it as one of his favourite 10 albums of all time. The top 20 hit from that album ‘Little Britain’ has since acquired classic status. Dreadzone’s 6 album career has spanned the credibility of a Creation Records release, major moves on Virgin and independent support on Functional and Rufflife. Their much anticipated new studio album ‘Eye on the Horizon’ is set to be released on their own label, Dubwiser Records, on 26 April 2010.
Not only does ‘Eye on the Horizon’ reflect on their illustrious past of innovative releases but it picks up from where the popular Little Britain left off in the mid 90’s and re-invents the band with ten tracks that mark the move into proper song-writing against a backdrop of the dubwise dancabilty they are reknown for. Dreadzone are regarded as early pioneers and innovators and have influenced many DJs and producers of the current Drum and Bass and Dubstep scene.
This is a band that has picked themselves up from personal setbacks to re-ignite and channel the emotion into a set of tunes that defy genre and are a timely reminder of the depth and originality of this unique British group.
2009 saw Dreadzone play to huge crowds at festivals and venues around the UK and in Europe in countries including Greece, Turkey, Czech, Hungary, Belgium, Poland, Croatia, France, Spain and Austria. Their dynamic live show has been central to the story since the early days and will continue to blow away audiences worldwide.
Dreadzone will be touring throughout 2010 including key international festivals in France, Benelux, GAS, Spain, CZ and Italy.

“Their universally loved live show continues to be the highlight
of many a festival goer across the globe” International DJ Magazine

  • White Hills – Walks For Motorists (Ltd. Colored Edition)

    Sektion: Musik, Neue Releases

Image: 1595743 White Hills are proponents of psychedelia as transformation. The music made by Dave W. and Ego Sensation is risky and cutting edge, rooted in dystopian futurism and hyperconscious of society’s constant desire for a new and better drug. That progressive aesthetic is at the heart of White Hills’ newest album Walks For Motorists, a radically stripped-down record that emphasizes rhythm and groove. The album bursts forth with a new kind of intensity, one born out of laser-focused precision and detail-oriented songwriting. Possibly surprising to fans familiar with the Hawkwindian guitar squall of earlier albums, the songs on Walks For Motorists began as a keyboard melody or bass line, and several songs on the album don’t even feature guitar at all. This is propulsive, open music, surreal to its core but made to inspire people to get out of their seats and move.
Walks For Motorists was recorded with David Wrench (Caribou, Bear in Heaven, FKA Twigs, Owen Pallet) at Bryn Derwen Recording Studio in Bethesda, Wales which borders the Snowdonia National Forest. The band had 24-hour access to the studio, which allowed them to work whenever inspiration struck. Wrench’s expertise producing and mixing electronic music was an essential asset when perfecting the crisp tones heard throughout the record. This is the first album the band has recorded outside of New York City, and the vast, rolling Welsh landscape that surrounded the studio influenced the album’s uncluttered sound. Walks For Motorists is also White Hills’ most diverse album to date. Fuzzed-out rockers sit comfortably next to kraut-infused grooves, and there are more vocal contributions from Ego than ever before.
White Hills has been developing an entirely new live set focusing on new music, and will be playing many major festivals in 2015, including Roadburn, Primavera, and ATP Iceland. As anyone who has seen the band knows, they can command stages both gargantuan and intimate, and are one of the most legendary live acts in psychedelic rock today. The band’s relentless touring of the US and Europe has gained them a massive grassroots following worldwide, and even more touring is planned throughout 2015.

  • Banda Black Rio – Super Nova Samba Funk

    Sektion: Musik, Neue Releases

Image: 1565947 The special heavyweight vinyl edition of Super Nova Samba Funk ? the comeback album from Banda Black Rio featuring Brazilian heavyweights Seu Jorge, Marcio Local, Elza Soares, Cesar Camargo Mariano & more.

William Magalh?es forms a modern-day Banda Black Rio epitomising the spirit of his father Oberdan?s original ?70s Brazilian samba soul and funk group. BBR defined the Black Rio movement now enjoying a revival headed by Magalh?es? incarnation with the passion of soul and funk again linking Rio and New York for a feel-good blast that also takes in hip-hop, samba, pop and bossa. Brazilian icons Seu Jorge, Marcio Local and Elza Soares feature alongside bossa pioneers Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil as well as Flame Killer and GOD PT3 from the famed NYC Mobb Deep crew. Super Nova Samba Funk brings Rio?s black music cultures together to embody the ecstatic revival of Brazil and the Black Rio movement.

Formed in Rio De Janeiro, 1976, Banda Black Rio pioneered the soul-funk movement in Brazil led by renowned saxophonist Oberdan Magalhaes. As global stars of the politically charged Black Rio movement, emerging almost a decade earlier from the Soul Brasileiro genre, BBR brought together Rio?s black funk scene to rally against repression, a conservative record industry and white middle class press to mobilise disenchanted black Brazilian youth against the military dictatorship that mirrored the struggles in North America. Banda Black Rio released a string of unforgettable recordings in the late-1970s from 1977 debut album, Maria Fuma?a, on Warner Music to 1978?s Gafieira Universal on RCA Recordings that is considered one of the all-time great Brazilian jazz-funk records. The third album, SaciPerer?, was also released in 1978 by which point the band had made a lasting impact both in Brazil and abroad. Following the death of original band leader Oberdan Magalh?es in 1984 the band stopped recording and performing. Far Out?s Joe Davis helped the rare-groove scene rediscover BBR in the early 90s supplying the top DJs such as Gilles Peterson and Norman Jay with the imported vinyl before celebrated artists such as Mos Def and Incognito recorded their songs to further resurrect the legendary band?s name. With a renaissance in Brazil's black music culture led by a new generation of soul, funk and hip hop artists BBR finally arrived back with a brand new formation for comeback album Rebirth in 2000, before launching their most ambitious project to date with 2011?s Super Nova Samba Funk ? the group?s sixth studio album produced and led by William Magalh?es.

The philosophy on Super Nova Samba Funk remains the same: celebrating the musicality of black Brazil through strong lyrical representation and its unique combination of jazz, funk, soul, samba and gafieira. Super Nova Samba Funk (9 No Samba) and Samba Nova are two special instrumental tracks that showcase Rio?s finest players who together form BBR. Isabela combines elegant brass, jazz and gafieira swing that counts the special input of Elza Soares ? the legendary scatting samba singer ? and Cesar Carmargo Mariano ? the famed pianist and arranger, father of Maria Rita, and husband to Elis Regina.

Seu Jorge ? world famous Brazilian musician, singer, songwriter and actor famed for his roles in City of God and Life Aquatic whose latest music project with Almaz signed to Stones Throw Records ? distinctive samba vocals fire the infectious Brazilian soul-pop of Louis Lane and Lindos Olhes - Jorge featuring alongside respected Brazilian r&b and rap stars Dom Pixote and Mano Brown, Marcio Local ? a major new Brazilian star signed to David Byrne?s Luaka Bop imprint ? combines samba and soul on the swinging ?carioca? melody Quem Vem l?.

SNSF is a unification of black music styles, rhythms, artists & generations rising up like an exploding super nova star.

  • Various – American Music Library (Hits Of 1962)

    Sektion: Musik, Neue Releases

Image: 1593068 The Hits Of 1962 is the latest volume of our popular American Music Library series. It includes all the American Top 10 hits that weren’t hits in Britain, any number ones on the R&B and C&W charts that didn’t make the Top 10 on the Hot 100, nor were hits in the UK, as well as a selection of the Hot 100 hits that didn’t make the US Top 10, nor the British charts.

America took no notice when Parlophone Records in Britain issued Love Me Do by The Beatles in October 1962. Across the water that year it was business as usual and when all the figures were added up, RCA Victor came out as the label with the most hit singles that year, with the Liberty label as runner-up and three majors, Columbia, Decca and Mercury tie-ing for third place. America’s teenagers were still dancing, thanks to a steady supply of dance crazes, mainly emanating from Philadelphia’s Cameo and Parkway labels and in Detroit Berry Gordy was in the early stages of formulating his Sound of Young America at his Tamla-Motown-Gordy stable of labels.

Because of the amount of chart action in the Hot 100 in 1962, we have had to expand our coverage of The Hits Of 1962 from the 90-track 3CD set of previous instalments in this series, to a whopping 120-track 4CD set, featuring:
All 55 US Pop 10 hits from 1962 that didn’t make the UK chart,
All 8 additional US Country and R&B chart-toppers that evaded the US Pop Top 10 (and again didn’t make the UK charts),
A generous 57-track selection of further hits from the US Pop Hot 100, none of which made the UK charts.
With an expanded booklet annotated by compiler Austin Powell, American Music Library: The Hits Of 1962 offers a fascinating overview of the world’s biggest record-buying market of the time...

Continuing the major series from Fantastic Voyage, providing an in-depth survey of US hits both big and small
4CD set packed with 120 hits from the US charts of 1962, none of which were hits in the UK
24pp booklet, annotated by compiler Austin Powell
Deliberately compiled to complement (without track overlap) the highly popular British Hit Parade series
There is the prospect of further volumes surveying the Fifties, as well as companion volumes devoted to lesser hits

  • Gabby Young & Other Animals – One Foot In Front Of The Other

    Sektion: Musik, Neue Releases

Image: 1588257 The exquisite Gabby Young & Other Animals return with their highly anticipated third album, ‘One Foot In Front of The Other’.

‘One Foot In Front of the Other’ still covers the musical styles her fans will be accustomed to, and like her previous two albums, continues to defy labels, effortlessly moving between moments of jazz, opera, folk and cabaret. However, the production has never sounded better – overflowing with lush instrumentation it feels like her most polished work to date, thanks to stellar production by fellow Animal Stephen Ellis, engineered by Dave Moore (The Laurel Collective/ Empirical) Jake Gordon (Naughty Boy/Professor Green).

‘One Foot In Front of The Other’ is the follow up to the critically acclaimed 2012 album, ‘The Band Called Out For More.’ This saw Gabby featured everywhere from The Metro and The Independent, to a page interview and 4-star review in The Sun’s Something For The Weekend, with further 4-star reviews in the likes of The Guardian, FT and Mirror. The band’s first album, ‘We’re All In This Together’ was equally as lauded. On its release in 2010 it won over most of the UK’s major newspapers, including The Guardian, The Sunday Times and the Evening Standard.

‘Both of our previous albums have been so well received by critics and fans alike’ says Gabby. ‘I really hope this one achieves the same reaction. I see the three of them as a collective, but there’s something about this one – I’ve fallen in love with every song on it, and I couldn’t say that about our previous albums.’

“She has the power, clarity and precision of an opera diva” 4*s The Guardian

    “Gabby Young is distinctive” MOJO

“A sense of a second-hand jumble worked up into something vital and new is matched in the tapestry of their sound.” THE SUNDAY TIMES

“Gabby’s voice exudes a sense of genuine quality” 4*s The Fly

“Completely irresistible” Tom Robinson, BBC 6

Image: 1589425 The American Music Library is a major new series from Fantastic Voyage and is sure to be of considerable interest to music lovers with an interest in accumulating a substantial collection of hit singles, without track overlap with our popular British Hit Parade series. Hot on the heels of the debut release in the series, The Hits Of 1959, comes the second hit-packed instalment, The Hits Of 1960.

When the decade, later to be called “The Swinging Sixties”, got under way, America was still the engine room of the world’s pop music, their music industry was far more mature than that in any other country and a plethora of small independent labels were able to compete quite efficiently with the “majors” that had been in business since the forties or even earlier. So, a Top 10 hit in America would often translate into a hit in many other world territories. But not always. The American Music Library celebrates US hit singles big and small, but concentrates on only those singles that did not chart in the UK. So it deliberately avoids duplication of tracks on compilations like the British Hit Parade series, which many collectors have assiduously purchased over the years.

The Hits Of 1960 is a 90-track 3CD set which features:
All 30 US Pop 10 hits from 1959 that didn’t make the UK chart,
All 8 additional US Country and R&B chart-toppers that evaded the US Pop Top 10 (and again didn’t make the UK charts),
A further 52 hits from the US Pop Hot 100 that didn’t make the UK charts.

So enjoy this survey of the biggest pop, country and R&B hits that missed out on the UK charts, as well as a selection of other Hot 100 hits for your enjoyment. The accompanying 20pp booklet is illustrated in colour and features notes by series compiler Austin Powell, plus US release information (label, catalogue number, credited accompanists and producers) and details of any UK equivalent.

Continuing the major new series from Fantastic Voyage, providing an in-depth survey of US hits both big and small
3CD set packed with 90 hits from the US charts of 1960, none of which were hits in the UK

Deliberately compiled to complement (without track overlap) the highly popular British Hit Parade series
Subsequent volumes will be devoted to US hits from other years in the Fifties and Sixties
