  • Press Club – Late Teens

    Sektion: Musik, Neue Releases

Image: 1622850 With Press Club having already risen way out of Australia’s underground punk scene, to become one of the country’s buzziest new bands, today they announce that they have signed to Hassle Records for the UK / EU release of their debut album Late Teens on Jan 25. Support from the influential Triple J radio station has come thick and fast for the band, with a number of singles gaining heavy rotation, and a coveted “Like A Version” session slot generating over 150,000 views. Rolling Stone Australia and Beat Magazine have also touted the band as Ones To Watch, as the first pockets of UK media support have begun to emerge from Kerrang! magazine and the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show’s Dan P Carter. Press Club are also sharing lead single and accompanying video for Headwreck, two and half minutes of frenetic, raw, self-assured and commanding punk, stacked with buzz-saw guitars and brimming with honesty. The track is about a place we’ve all been, in a relationship with someone that doesn’t treat you right, doesn’t respect you. It’s a call to arms to respect yourself, to demand more. The video was shot in a Collingwood warehouse, with the help of two friends, Nick Manuell and Will Maconachie, who have created a video that captures the band’s brash energy, and embodies how the song was recorded: live and in one take. It’s a glimpse at the kind of performances that have won them so many fans in support of the likes of Japandroids, Joyce Manor, Cloud Nothings, The Smith Street Band and Dream Wife on the road in their native Australia. Press Club will also play their first ever live shows in the UK this coming Spring, with more details to be announced shortly. Bassist Iain MacRae comments, “Absolutely over the moon to be part of the Hassle posse! It's great to finally have someone we trust in our corner after being independent for so long. Let the Antipodean takeover of Europe commence!” Late Teens is what happens when four Melbourne musicians come together to create a body of work entirely devoid of outside influence, being answerable to only themselves. Over six weeks, bassist Iain MacRae’s house was converted into a temporary song-writing sweatshop where the band wrote forty songs that were distilled into the dozen that make up the track list on Late Teens. Relying upon the experiences of their friends and people they know as subject matter, Late Teens thematically approaches displacement, relationships, internal turmoil, gentrification and inequality. Press Club is the musical embodiment of the attitude of a generation experiencing impermanence in every way

  • James Clarke – Mystery Movie

    Sektion: Musik, Neue Releases

Be With has worked with the hallowed KPM to re-issue ten of our favourites from across the KPM 1000 Series and the Themes International Music catalogue, currently under KPM stewardship.

Whether it’s killer soul-funk, sweet jazz-samba, skuzzed-up guitars or accidental Balearic beauty, these records include some of the most innovative work from some of the most talented composers and musicians of the 20th century.

These records were never readily available, being originally released as a ready-made, affordable alternative to commissioning music for television and radio. Consequentially the originals have been unobtainable for decades by all but the most dedicated collectors.

The audio for all ten re-issues comes from the original analogue tapes and has been remastered for vinyl by Be With regular Simon Francis. We’ve taken the same care with the sleeves, handing the reproduction duties over to Richard Robinson, the current custodian of KPM’s brand identity. And don’t worry! Those KPM stickers aren’t stuck directly on the sleeves!

But we didn’t just get a bit giddy and find ourselves re-issuing classic work from Alan Parker, Alan Hawkshaw, Brian Bennett, Nick Ingman, James Clarke, Francis Coppieters, Keith Mansfield, David Snell and John Fiddy. In the middle of the project KPM also asked Be With to be responsible for the vinyl version of Full Circle, an entire LP of new material from Alan Hawkshaw and Brian Bennett. Who were we to refuse.

So that makes eleven records in total, all released on the 16th of November, and available for pre-order ordering now... Erhältlich ab 23.11.2018 Getaggt mit:
  • Glenn Jones – The Giant Who Ate Himself… (LP+MP3)

    Sektion: Musik, Neue Releases

Image: 1619789 The Giant Who Ate Himself And Other New Works For 6 & 12 String Guitar
is Glenn Jones at his most vivid, exploring memories old and new through
beautifully woven threads of melody. His unparalleled skill and creativity
exhibits the mastery Jones possesses of his craft, further cementing his position
as a pillar in American Primitive guitar music. Recorded in New Jersey by
Laura Baird and mixed by Matthew Azevado, The Giant Who Ate Himself And
Other New Works For 6 & 12 String Guitar, make for an exceptional evening of
    listening.
The album’s title is itself is an homage for Jones’ mentor John Fahey, whose
friendship with Jones spanned 25 years. The people whom Jones surrounded
himself with too share a presence in the pieces throughout the album. “A
Different Kind of Christmas Carol” took on an entirely new life for Jones after his
curmudgeonly, Scrooge-like introduction to the song at a show in Pennsylvania
was met with beaming enthusiasm from a child. The arching journey of “From
Frederick To Fredericksburg” recounts a day Jones spent with old friend and
collaborator the late Jack Rose while visiting renowned 78 collector Joe Bussard
and their journey home late into the night. Sounds of the rural New Jersey
outdoors of the recording studio even fnd their way onto the album with the
sound collage piece “River In The Sky.”
Jones approaches his compositions frst and foremost as concepts, emotions,
and colors. Every step in his process of writing and recording is in service of
creating a distinct character for each piece. According to Jones, “To get that
sense of place and time, you have to let the world into the recording.” By giving
glimpses of the colorful personalities who have affected him, Jones’ The Giant
Who Ate Himself in turn shows us who he is: a master of his craft, continuing
    to reach for more.

  • Colleen – A Flame My Love, A Frequency (LP+MP3)

    Sektion: Musik, Neue Releases

Image: 1611830 French multi-instrumentalist Colleen (Cécile Schott) is fearless in her willingness
to explore new sounds and new ways of creating music as a solo performer. On
her new album A ?ame my love, a frequency, she introduces the most drastic
change to her music since she began singing on her fourth album, setting aside
the viola da gamba she is known for in exchange for all electronic instrumentation
    – Moog pedals and Critter and Guitari synthesizers.
Words used to describe her muse Arthur Russell are equally applicable to Colleen.
Schott’s compositions can be in turn pop or experimental, vocal or instrumental,
and acoustic or electronic. She has drawn on the baroque sounds of a classical
instrument using the most modern pedals and looping techniques. Shape shifting
as she does, the pieces are always distinctly her strong and utterly unique musical
voice. A constant across Colleen’s albums are delicate extended melodies, minutely
detailed soundscapes, and explorative unbounded compositions. Colleen’s work is
a direct result of her core belief that in order to keep growing as an artist, you need
to continue to be willing to experiment and to embrace drastic changes.
The music of A ?ame my love, a frequency is the closest Colleen has come to a
concept album, a re?ection upon one year in her life that began in the Autumn of
2015. The album‘s central theme is the inescapable fact that life and death always
walk hand in hand. Schott is an avid bird watcher and her home and studio on the
coast of Spain allow for frequent trips out into the wilds. As any naturalist knows,
extreme beauty and vitality go hand in hand with brutality. This symbiosis was made
more personal when, on the way back from visiting a very ill relative in France, she
decided to spend the night in her former home of Paris in order to take her viola
bow for repair at a luthier in the Republique area. It was late afternoon and she
remembers the beauty of Paris and people sitting and enjoying the cafés. That was
November 13th and a mere 4 hours later these very same cafés were the scene of
    utter terror and death.
A few weeks after the events, Colleen started composing the songs that make up the
album. She recorded each song live with minimal edits and vocals were recorded
without overdubs, creating a symbiosis between the machine and the performer
that mirrors the album’s core concept. The personal narrative of the year in
question yields a more vulnerable sound than any previous recordings by Colleen.
“Separating” is an emotional response to being overwhelmed by the inevitability of
death. Feelings of fear are never far from feelings of joy as they are in “Winter dawn”
with its propulsive thump and ominous lyrics “I came home with a fstful of fear,”
that manage to shift towards hope with “Love alone is your home.” Joy and hope are
strongly present throughout the album, the catalyst that lifts us out of the darkness
as inevitably as night to day. We are shown the wonderment of “Another world,”
and through the metaphors of light, shown joy as in the title track. A ?ame my love,
a frequency is an album that fnds optimism in the face of tribulation, a meditation
on humanity’s ability to prevail. It is a beautiful, complex album by a singular and
    remarkable musician.
